We Offer Careers Not Simply Jobs!
Meet Me for a Coffee to Discuss this Further!
I have worked in hospitality recruitment for nearly all my professional career. Today I am Head of HR for AX Hotels, one of the largest hotel chains in Malta. Under one brand we manage 7 properties in three localities, namely Qawra, Sliema, and Valletta as well as a number of restaurants.
You must have heard of our hotels such as AX The Palace, AX The Seashells Resort at Suncrest or our restaurants – Cheeky Monkey Gastropub, Luzzu Restaurant & Lido or TemptAsian-our 5-star Asian fusion cuisine restaurant. These are just a few names among nearly 15 different outlets across AX Hotels, each offering a unique concept to our clients.
There is no boring day in my line of work. Needless to say, that the market has created a very demanding environment for recruitment but more so because of the versatility of the posts that we can offer for our people. We have vacancies in administration and finance but also very interesting job openings for Chef and recently even posts for Butlers. One might say that the latter requires a forgotten skillset in today’s hospitality environment but with our new product – the 5-star Rosselli AX Privilege Boutique hotel in Valletta, we are reintroducing the good old, honest hospitality into the business. This will be a place where attention to the customer/guest will be at the highest level.
Once you join AX Hotels you have the opportunity to grow within your role by acquiring new and different skill sets. For example, you can start your career as a Commis Chef in one of our Mediterranean restaurants, then you can continue your growth to Chef de Partie level at TemptAsian by learning new skills, in the Asian fusion cuisine and after that, you can become a Sous Chef at the fine dining restaurant. Doesn’t that sound exciting? We offer careers not just jobs and that is our belief throughout.
We can give many examples of how people can grow within our chain but the most significant ones are of Kevin Callus and Matthew Gingell LittleJohn, General Managers of our Sliema and Valletta properties.
Kevin Callus, today the General Manager of AX The Palace, AX The Victoria, and AX Palazzo Capua started his career at the front desk. Here is what Mr. Callus says: “I started from the position of a receptionist and slowly worked my way up. I am grateful to the company for taking the decision to invest in me and my skills. I grew in my position a number of times because I was also ambitious and hungry to learn.”
Matthew Gingell Littlejohn started as a Front Office Manager at AX Seashells Resort at Suncrest, later on, was promoted to Operations Manager for AX Sunny Coast Resort & Spa and today he is the General Manager of the Valletta properties, being in charge for AX The Saint John and Rosselli AX Privilege.
All I can say is that within this group we offer opportunities and the rest is really up to you.
