Breaking Barriers: Zak Borg’s Journey at AX Hotels Sliema
Finding the right job can be daunting for anyone, but for individuals with autism, the journey can come with unique challenges. Zak Borg, a 19-year-old from Rabat, is proving that with determination and the right support, anything is possible. Currently working as an office clerk in the Administration department at AX The Palace, Zak is an inspiring example of resilience and success.
“So far, I am very happy here. I find support from my superiors, and I look forward to coming to work,” Zak shares about his experience at AX Hotels Sliema
Zak has faced challenges due to autism but has never allowed them define him. “I wanted to be treated like a person without a disability. I was afraid I wouldn’t concentrate at work and not understand my tasks, but I fought this and can say that I have overcome these challenges.”
His achievements so far include completing his O Levels, pursuing Administration and IT courses at MCAST and securing a fulfilling role at AX Group. Looking ahead, Zak aspires to continue expanding his knowledge in administration and one day own a home in the heart of Rabat. Zak is also fond of the AX Foundation’s work in supporting individuals with autism, a cause close to his heart. “The Foundation, the charitable arm for AX Group gave me the chance to step into the working world”. “I also try to support others, and I do my best to motivate and understand my friend who has Down syndrome too.”
His message to other autistic individuals aspiring to build a career in hospitality is simple but powerful: “Don’t give up and keep on going. Focus on your abilities, not your disabilities.”
Zak’s story is a reminder that autism should never stand in the way of opportunity. With the right support and a determined mindset, success is always within reach.
