Job Summary
Hilltop Gardens Retirement Village is looking for a Commis Chef to join their kitchen brigade. Selected candidate will be responsible to put residents and guests care as a priority, with every effort being made to meet the residents and guests needs with all feedbacks being actioned, following procedures as laid down by care home policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and cooking of food items under supervision.
- Follow recipes, portion controls, and presentation specification as set by the Head Chef.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations at all times.
- Ensure food is stored, prepared, and served in accordance with food safety standards.
- Assist in receiving, unpacking, and properly storing deliveries.
- Support senior kitchen staff with day-to-day tasks and prep work.
- Follow kitchen procedures and safety protocols.
- Learn and apply culinary techniques and standards in different sections (e.g., hot kitchen, cold kitchen, pastry)
- Assist in minimizing food waste and maintaining inventory control.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Chef de Partie or Sous Chef.
Requirements:
- Basic culinary training or relevant kitchen experience preferred.
- Passion for cooking and willingness to learn.
- Understanding of kitchen hygiene and food safety standards.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment.
- Good communication and time management skills.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Food Handling Certificate (Mandatory).
- Minimum 2 years of experience in similar position.
