Job Summary
The Verdala Hotel & Spa is an exciting new addition to Malta’s hospitality scene, poised to redefine luxury accommodation with its blend of contemporary design, personalized service, and prime location. As we prepare to open our doors, we are seeking a talented Maintenance Manager to join our team and ensure that our facilities meet the highest standards of functionality, safety, and aesthetics, while also contributing to cost control, regulatory compliance, and guest satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of all physical facilities within the hotel, including guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, kitchens, recreational facilities, parking areas, and landscaping.
- Manage the maintenance and repair of all equipment and machinery used, such as HVAC systems, elevators, laundry machines, kitchen appliances, and audiovisual equipment amongst others.
- Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program to ensure that equipment and facilities are regularly inspected, serviced, and maintained to prevent breakdowns and prolong their lifespan.
- Be available to respond to emergency maintenance issues 24/7, such as power outages, plumbing leaks, heating or cooling system failures, or other urgent situations that could impact the safety or comfort of guests.
- Create and manage the maintenance department budget, including forecasting expenses, monitoring costs, and ensuring that expenditures are within budgetary constraints.
- Identify and manage relationships with external vendors, contractors, and suppliers for maintenance services, repairs, and equipment purchases. Negotiate contracts, obtain competitive bids, and ensure quality of workmanship.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, codes, and standards governing building maintenance, safety, and environmental sustainability. This includes conduct regular inspections, obtain permits, and address any violations or deficiencies promptly.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate maintenance staff, including technicians, electricians, plumbers, and janitorial workers. Provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities to ensure that staff have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, equipment inventory, and expenditures. Generate reports for management on maintenance performance, budget variance, and upcoming maintenance needs.
- Ensure that maintenance issues reported by guests are addressed promptly and effectively to maintain high levels of guest satisfaction. Monitor guest feedback and implement improvements based on guest suggestions or complaints.
- Implement energy-saving initiatives and environmentally sustainable practices to reduce utility costs and minimize the hotel's carbon footprint. This may include upgrading to energy-efficient appliances, installing renewable energy systems, and implementing waste reduction and recycling programs.
- Work closely with other departments such as housekeeping, front office, food and beverage, to coordinate maintenance activities and ensure that guest services are not disrupted.
Requirements:
- Associated maintenance-related qualification in the field, or equivalent experience
- Possesses license A and B certification
- A minimum of 5 years of working experience within a hotel maintenance department industry, 2 of which in a managerial position.
- Strong technical knowledge and proficiency in various aspects of maintenance and repair including HVAC, plumbing, electrical and general building maintenance
- Familiarity with the health and safety requirements and regulations and industry standards
- Leadership, organization and problem-solving skills
