Assistant Technician

Job Summary

Hilltop Gardens Retirement Village is looking for an Assistant Technician to join the maintenance team. In this position you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and upkeep of the property. The main responsibilities will include performing routine maintenance tasks, repairs, and inspections along-side other tasks.

Responsibilities:

• Carry out electrical fault finding, installations, calibration, and maintenance of plant and facility equipment.
• Diagnose faults, repair or replace parts, test systems, and complete corrective work.
• Use equipment manuals, schematics, and work orders to perform maintenance and repairs.
• Conduct regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment, and facility systems.
• Perform basic mechanical tasks including pumps, filters, plumbing, carpentry, and general equipment repairs.
• Carry out plastering, painting, and basic builder works when required.
• Complete maintenance checklists and ensure all work is logged for full traceability.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns and perform unscheduled repairs.
• Maintain pool systems and follow routine procedures.
• Address residents’ maintenance requests promptly and supervise contractors on site.
• Ensure all work complies with legislation, technical standards, and health and safety regulations.
• Take responsibility for tools, workshop equipment, spare parts, and materials.
• Assist in managing maintenance stock levels and ensuring timely availability of supplies.
• Recommend improvements to facilities, equipment, and energy‑saving initiatives.
• Ensure company vehicles are serviced within recommended intervals to prevent downtime.

Requirements:

• Hands‑on maintenance experience is essential.
• ​Able to plan and carry out preventive maintenance using checklists and established procedures.
• ​Competent with basic hand and power tools, including safe use, care, and accountability for tools and materials.
• ​Comfortable using CMMS or maintenance ticketing systems to log work, track parts, and close jobs with full traceability.
• ​Basic IT literacy, including email, spreadsheets, and document handling.
• Professional level of English.
• Currently residing in Malta.
