Job Summary
AX Care is looking for a Ward Host to support the daily comfort and well‑being of residents by managing non‑clinical services on the wards. The Ward Host ensures meals are served correctly, dietary needs are communicated, and dining areas remain clean and welcoming. Acting as a friendly point of contact, they help create a positive experience for residents while maintaining close coordination with the care team.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with daily menus by helping residents complete their selections during breakfast service and ensuring a calm, unhurried dining atmosphere.
- Replenish servery stock daily, following stock rotation, par levels, and food‑safety labelling standards.
- Maintain hygiene and organisation in all serveries, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Serve meals in the dining room in collaboration with care workers, and prepare trays for residents dining in their rooms, ensuring all condiments and required items are included.
- Clear and reset dining areas after each service and return trolleys and equipment to the kitchen.
- Ensure menu accuracy and proper completion of all dietary information.
- Collect used items such as jars, utensils, and trays after meals.
- Support food and beverage consistency by monitoring quality and presentation.
- Communicate with the care team regarding dietary needs, resident feedback, and any concerns.
- Follow infection‑control protocols at all times.
- Clean dining rooms, serveries, and pantry including equipment and storage areas.
- Organise the pantry daily to maintain order and cleanliness.
- Demonstrate professional conduct through politeness, respect, and a positive attitude.
- Maintain daily communication with residents and the care department.
- Keep records accurate including menus, stock levels, and handover notes.
- Attend meetings and training including mandatory SLP sessions.
Requirements:
- Food hygiene knowledge and understanding of safe food‑handling practices.
- In possession of a food handlers certificate.
- 6–12 months of experience in a catering or food‑service environment.
- Infection‑control awareness.
- SLP training.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact respectfully with residents and staff.
- Professional behaviour, reliability, punctuality, and confidentiality.
- Ability to work collaboratively with care staff and other departments.
