Job Summary
The Housekeeper is responsible for the full management and daily operation of the housekeeping department across AX Care, ensuring that the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, presentation, and infection prevention are consistently maintained throughout the whole property, including Simblija Care Home, Hilltop Gardens, shared areas, public areas, back-of-house areas, external grounds, and any other areas falling under the department’s responsibility.
Reporting to the Residence Manager, the role is accountable for organising, monitoring, and delivering all housekeeping activities, including routine cleaning, deep cleaning, stock control, team coordination, quality checks, and the implementation of structured cleaning schedules for internal and external areas.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the Housekeeping Department across AX Care, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, safety, and presentation throughout all facilities and grounds.
- Develop, implement, and monitor housekeeping schedules, including routine, deep cleaning, and seasonal programmes for internal and external areas.
- Plan, allocate, and supervise the work of housekeeping employees and outsourced cleaning contractors to ensure efficient use of resources and timely completion of tasks.
- Conduct regular inspections of resident, public, staff, service, and outdoor areas to ensure cleanliness, quality standards, and compliance with company procedures.
- Support a safe and caring environment by promoting infection prevention, resident dignity, comfort, and wellbeing through effective housekeeping practices.
- Manage housekeeping supplies, linen, chemicals, equipment, uniforms, and consumables, ensuring appropriate stock levels, safe storage, and cost-effective control.
- Train, coach, and support housekeeping employees in cleaning standards, health and safety practices, infection prevention, customer service, and company procedures.
- Maintain accurate departmental records, including cleaning schedules, inspections, stock control, incidents, and attendance records.
- Liaise closely with Maintenance and other departments to address defects, hazards, pest control, waste management, and any issues affecting cleanliness, safety, or presentation.
- Handle housekeeping-related requests, complaints, and feedback in a professional and timely manner, while supporting the Residence Manager in maintaining a welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and employees.
- Perform Duty Manager responsibilities as required.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years previous experience in housekeeping, cleaning operations, facilities support, or a similar operational role, preferably within a care, hospitality, residential, or healthcare environment.
- Strong understanding of cleaning standards, hygiene practices, infection prevention, safe use of chemicals, and proper handling of cleaning equipment.
- Ability to organise and supervise a team, allocate work, monitor standards, and follow up on completion of tasks.
- Good attention to detail and a practical approach to maintaining cleanliness, order, safety, and presentation across large internal and external areas.
- Able to communicate clearly with residents, relatives, visitors, employees, managers, contractors, and other departments.
- Committed to providing a respectful, safe, clean, and comfortable environment for residents and guests.
- Able to work under pressure, manage priorities, solve day-to-day operational issues, and respond to urgent cleaning or housekeeping needs.
- Complies with company policies, grooming standards, time and attendance procedures, health and safety rules, and confidentiality requirements.
- Demonstrates a proactive, hands-on, and accountable approach to departmental ownership.
