18 years of belonging: Mulu’s journey at AX The Palace
For Mulu Sendek, AX The Palace has become much more than a place of work. After 18 years as part of the Housekeeping team, it is a place where she has built friendships, celebrated important milestones and developed a strong sense of belonging.
Originally from Ethiopia, Mulu has spent almost two decades working at AX The Palace. Over the years, the people around her and the experiences she has shared with colleagues have played an important part in her journey.
Reflecting on how she feels after 18 years with the hotel, Mulu says she is happy and comfortable and that coming to work each day feels like coming home.
Celebrating memorable milestones
Throughout her time at AX The Palace, Mulu has experienced several moments that have made her journey particularly memorable.
One of these came in 2016, when she was nominated for the Chairman’s Awards. She recalls feeling both surprised and excited to receive the recognition.
More recently, Mulu was also invited to attend a Long Service Awards event, celebrating employees who have reached significant milestones with the company. It was another occasion she remembers fondly and an opportunity to celebrate alongside colleagues from across the business.
These moments of recognition form part of a much wider experience shaped by the relationships Mulu has built during her time with AX Hotels.
When asked to describe what AX Hotels means to her in just three words, her answer captures that experience perfectly:
“Family, friendship and stability.”
A place where people can belong
After 18 years at AX The Palace, Mulu’s message to anyone considering a career with AX Hotels is simple:
“Go for it. No matter where you are from. You feel that you belong.”
Her story reflects how a career can become about much more than the role itself. It is also about the connections built along the way, the experiences shared with colleagues and finding a workplace where you feel part of something.
For Mulu, that journey continues at AX The Palace, a place that, after 18 years, feels like home.
