How to Stay Motivated When Learning Something New
Starting something new is always exciting, but it can be quite challengeable to keep the ball rolling. Motivation is key to success in any case – whether you’re learning a new skill, tool, or language.
Here are some ideas on how to stay motivated once the learning has started and the feeling of new beginning is shying away from you.
First of all, connect your learning to a personal goal. Ask yourself, “How will this help me to grow?” Understanding the bigger picture will keep you energised. As one of the Habits by famous Stephen Covey states, “Start with an end in mind”.
Secondly, review your learning plan and break it down into small, manageable steps. Mark your milestones along the way and celebrate small wins as they keep your confidence and focus on the high levels.
Third, revisit your learning plan and try to rotate the learning methods: switch between reading, watching, listening, hands-on practicing. Variety of methods keeps the process fresh avoiding routine. And remember to take 15 minutes breaks after every hour of studies.
Last but not least, be surrounded by the community of like-minded people. Join the study groups, find a mentor, or follow online forums and social media pages – all of these can boost motivation and offer valuable support.
Learning is a journey. Stay curious, alert and patient and enjoy the process!
